Frequently Asked Questions
Wait, Before you Read the FAQ! ![]() Please make sure you have read the Game Information page first, as the questions are written with the assumption you did. |
What IS this place? ![]() You're in a giant city called Nuadoria, surrounded by water and forests. Over the treetops is the distant presence of an large and extravagant cathedral. Everything’s eerily well-kept, despite how silent and empty it is. It has all the comforts of home: electricity, running water, modern furnishings, the works. |
So what makes this place different from any other city? ![]() Well, your senses are a bit warped, to say the least. Your character may hear sounds they’ve never heard before, see things and creatures unlike anything in any sort of mythology, feel the touch of things they can’t see or hear, or experience random sensations of falling when they’re standing still—even if none of it is being experienced by anyone else around them. And that’s only the half of it. Nuadoria has no solid form of reality, and it causes one’s senses to go haywire, and for a person to see or experience things they couldn’t normally. |
Okay. Is that the only threat? ![]() Nope. Some of these things around you—that you can see and not feel, feel but not see, feel and see but not hear— can hurt you and will actively attempt to. However, these things that go bump in the night are not always present. They seem to only come out to play when the cathedral bell from the other side of the forest sounds. However, if your character is unable to defend itself at that moment in time, they'd better hope to find someone who can do it for them. |
Oh no! My character can die here? ![]() They certainly can. Once they die, depending on circumstances (if it's an event or not), there will either have to be a special circumstance as to how they return. During this time (Unless it's an event, it will be approximately 5 days of real world time for the death sequence), dead characters will be only able to post in |
Wait, what? Natives? Who are they and what do they look like? ![]() No one really knows who they are, persay, although the ones that have been met claim their positions soundly. While they all present an outward appearance some way or another, it's unclear whether they are friend or foe to none, some, or all of the characters in Nuadoria. As unclear as they are towards the characters, perhaps even moreso are they towards one another. The characters have a unique opportunity with the NPCs of this game to form relationships and even join for causes that were past supported within Nuadoria, should they so desire (or they can simply stay focused on their one and only task at hand of returning home ♥ ). It's up to you! |
Can I use the NPCs in my logs? Or any ambiguous natives? ![]() Nope, sorry! In AT, the important native NPCs are treated like OCs. They have their players and are not available to be used or assumed into any logs, nor are they available for casual logging with PCs (events, story!plot or important CR only, please). Ambiguous natives are controlled by the NPC account, |
I think I have another question about these NPCs ![]() Fair enough! Please see here for more information. (Link coming soon!) |
Right. I got it. So why am I here, again? ![]() No one quite knows why you're here or how you got there. And while most of the natives claim ignorance and feign innocence to being responsible for your arrival, one or two of them seem to express they may know otherwise. |
And what's the deal with that forest? ![]() You mean the one that surrounds Nuadoria on all sides except the one surrounded by water? That one? Depending on what time of the day your character wanders in there, their absolute threshold gets heightened or dampened in an extreme sense. Results vary, but usually end up on the extreme end of the spectrums, causing anyone who tries to go through to immediately lose consciousness and mysteriously wake up in their beds the next morning. However, there have supposedly been times known when the forest's effects to dissipate to allow safe passage to the other side. |
And the cathedral? ![]() The cathedral that lies beyond Nuadoria and past the forest is constantly present, looming over the city ominously, even though the only truly visible part of it are the bell towers. At random times, the bells will sound. This will mostly be the signaling of events. Characters' senses will go crazy, and this will also trigger the ability to see and experience some of the nastier things in Nuadoria-- specifically, its hidden demon infestation, as well as some of the city's other hidden secrets. |
So that's what you mean about characters' powers fluctuating? ![]() Yes! There will be events every now and again, where the universal reality of the city shifts. Depending on which sense we decide to enhance or take away, some special abilities could be strengthened while others weakened. Keep an eye on the OOC and main communities for these events! |
Where can my character live? ![]() Wherever they want. No one will stop them from claiming a random house/apartment and parking their butts in it. |
What about food, water, shopping? ![]() See question 1. Also, there is no economy in Nuadoria. Anything that is taken off the shelves in the shops is immediately replaced. |
So what about all these weird sensations, happenings, creatures, and disappearances? ![]() It’s all up to you to involve your character in them. You can make them so intense and disorienting that your character feels the need to gripe about it at every given chance, or you could keep it at a minor inconvenience. Please keep in mind, though, that if you consistently ignore the laws of “reality” in Nuadoria and have your character living an otherwise normal life, you will receive a warning and a rerouting to the rules of the game. This goes for plot, as well. NPCs and the storyline, while not having to be actively dealt with, cannot be ignored and must be taken into consideration while playing at AT. Subsequent offenses will result in disciplinary consequences. |
Hey, wait, how is my character supposed to communicate with others?! ![]() When your character's reality finally pieces back together in Nuadoria, a communication device will materialize with them. It may end up in their pocket or fall on the ground next to them, or whatever else. If your character wakes up in Nuadoria, the communicator will already be there in the same fashion. It'll already be on, flashing a welcome message with instructions on how to use. Communicators all look similar, although some may have certain adjustments to their functions to better suit a character (we're talking about different languages for menu options and etc.). The communicators consist of the actual device and a headset. The device is used for text messaging and visuals (maps, pictures, etc.). The headset is for communicating verbally, allowing hands free action in times of emergencies. The two are not connected, and both do not have to be used. The device will work without the headset, but the headset will not work without the device close by. Everything is automatically translated via text and voice, so there will be no language barriers/no writing in different languages over the system. Basically, think of a really high tech palm pilot or smart phone with a really high tech looking earpiece, and you basically got what we have. Eventually, a generic visual will be available, but for now, use your imagination. On that note, these devices are currently not customizable (other than the basic things stated above). They are extremely durable, however, and pretty tough to disassemble/break/etc. Mod approval is required before the device is broken/opened/etc. because after that, the communicator won't work (even if they can reassemble it, it won't start working again)until an NPC can be tracked down to fix it. |
What ways can my character use their communicators to interact? ![]() This RP makes use of the character journal system. All "communication" will take place in various character journals. Characters have three options for interacting with the communicators: text, voice, and video. There is an in depth Information guide for those interested in more reading/clarification. The short(er) version is: Text acts similar to LJ posts. Messages are also able to be privatized to one or more than one charcter, or be hackable. There are different levels of security (thus making it easier/harder to hack), but all hacking can only be done by a character with the knowledge to do so. And hacking a post information still requires both players to mutually agree on the hacking. Unhackable entries or entries not specified a level of security, are not hackable regardless. Voice acts similar to text for ooc purposes. But, voice posts that are "locked" to certain people are not locked like a text entry. They are simply on a different channel/frequency that only certain people will hear. Video acts the same as voice, only it has a visual feed to accompany it. |
Can our characters breech the 4th Wall? ![]() The short answer is: Absolutely not. The long answer is: Only in very, very rare circumstances. It tends to defeat the purpose of a multi-fandom roleplay and doesn't make everyone equal. It gives unfair ooc-knowledge of other characters and is overall a general bad situation. The characters will have enough sanity-breaking problems in this RP where they don't need the added nuisance of fangirling/fanboying from another character. The only exception to this rule is if it is canonically stated that the character would actually know about the characters. (Example: the characters avidly reads Shounen Jump, so they would canonically know Naruto from their world). Because it is actual background and directly mentioned as in character, 4th wall breaching is a possibility. You will need to prove this information to the mods, as well, for us to consider your character able to breech the 4th wall (you can't just say your character is from Japan so they might watch anime. They have to actually do it). However, any 4th wall breaching must be cleared with the players of the characters about to be hassled. Under no circumstances will it be allowed if the players are not okay with it. Sorry, but in that case, you'll just have to get a good reason ingrained in your head as to why they haven't said anything. Please respect this, some people are very very sensitive and against 4th walling outside of crack situations (or at all). OCs aren't allowed to 4th wall breech under any circumstances. Sorry, but that is would be us just asking for a headache ♥ |
Can we apply for a character that's already taken if it's a different version?(AU) ![]() No, sorry! We do not allow alternate versions of an already taken character in Absolute Threshold. While a player may pick any version of a character they wish, that is the only version allowed in game at the time. Once that player drops, the next person looking to pick that character up is more than welcome to choose a different version to apply for. Please note, this includes Katekyo Hitman Reborn! characters. If you see any doubles, it's because they've been grandfathered. Please do not argue over the fact they're there, it's no longer allowed to avoid upset and miscommunication. Thank you for understanding! |
So, what's the policy on applying for characters that have previously been here? ![]() While Absolute Threshold is a plot intensive game and it'd be ideal if people never got bored and dropped characters or got busy or whatever happens, it does happen! And sometimes, you need to start fresh, even if you are reapplying for the character that you originally dropped. So, in order to avoid the mass amount of work/reviewing that could possibly come along, if a character has been applied for you are welcome to either: start fresh/reset: Character has no memory of their time in Nuadoria, any effects that had been bestowed upon them during their time in Nuadoria (such as memory loss) are gone, etc, etc. |
Why is this plot so complicated?! ![]() READ THIS. If you read nothing else before applying, read this. Absolute Threshold, even before its launch and revamp had always been intended to be a plot intense game. It was based on the concept of more traditional pen and paper dungeon and dragons RPG style and the idea people wanted to roleplay more for story and character development rather than simply crack, sex, and etc. AT has no problem with having fun (seriously, sex ? Go for it, no one is saying it's not allowed, it's just the game and AT players tend to appreciate people putting development into it or having reasoning behind it instead of it just happening constantly for no reason. Crackish posts? we have our fair share while staying IC, this game would be pretty depressing without some laughs, after all). But the game's core is a different: more serious RP for RPers who are interested that type of serious developed roleplaying. The moderator loves story, loves character development, loves twists, and loves symbolism and all that crap. Thus, that's what you're getting. Something different. It's definitely not for everyone, and it's definitely not a mainstream. This game's plot does have an ending, it won't run forever and aimlessly, and every big event that occurs will have meaning to the plot/story. There will be no random "and then this happens just because" events. There will be no "gender bending" events, or any events that happen just to have random stuff happen (unless, they're in the crack community, of course). That's just not what type of RP this is. If you want to join an RP with little/less complicated plot that isn't as linear, there are plenty of other very well run LJ RPs for you to chose from. This is a fair warning of what you're applying for. This is what you're going to get. The NPCs are going to be hovering around, and I do mean they'll be hovering around. They're not omnipresent, and they're involved. They're going to talk to your characters indiscriminately, they're going to post, they're going to talk to one another, and honestly you're more than likely going to feel like they're actual characters more than what LJ RPs have made NPCs out to be (as they are based on the concept of important plot!involved video game RPG NPCs). So if you must, think of them as PCs from the game setting solely made to move the game events along (and provide background/history plot entertainment for those who care because, as said before, most players like story here!). It's just how it is. They're not more important to the plot than any other character in the game, they just have the knowledge to move the plot along (their story is ultimately already over). The plot is going to involve your characters indiscriminately (how IMPORTANT your character is to plot is up to you, but your character will most likely end up involved regardless at some point) and this game wants your character in the plot. Your characters are here for a reason! If you like heavy plot, character development, lots of writing and thinking, and getting yourself involved in story, you'll probably like this game. If you're joining to RP with a couple friends, or just in your little fandom, you probably are not going to like this game and might want to consider applying elsewhere before going through all the trouble of filling out the application and being disappointed with what you receive here. ♥. Fair warning, no complaining ♥. |
