22nd-Nov-2008 05:41 am - PLAYER EVENT || METEOR: AFTERMATH
[This isn't what one would expect to wake up to nor experience, whether now in city encase in protective ice, watching from a distance from the outskirts of the forest beyond the city, or now from the otherside in Niflheim itself: the city destroyed, burning, and burning is really the least of its problems. For now, its inaccessible to explore, but once is accessible, the half of the city that meteor directly hit and cratered will reveal a rather interesting and quite comforting scenario. The crater is massive and deep, but even from the distance above its easy to see there is something down there, and that something is damaged. And it should not be, from the way its energy pulses so oddly. There's a lack of balance, even a balance that is akin to being able to recognize as chaos.

Standing too long around this crater to observe the area will cause characters to get immensely ill: physically and mentally. They will also hear voices, at first many at once similar to what happened before the earthquake, and then one overpowering influential one that will suffocate their control until they pass out (consider the effects around this crater extremely similar to a city blackzone. All the zones have been neutralized and scrambled, so they're currently not where they should be and necessarily applicable). When they wake, characters will find themselves at the entrance to the cathedral on the other side of the forest.

With the impact of meteor, the forest has also reacted. Its ominous presence has dissipated and its trees have become less dense and more welcoming. The atmosphere is no longer thick and disorienting; in fact, it's quite the opposite. Characters who enter the forrest and aimlessly wander will inevitable end up at the other side instead of being forever lost; into the courtyards of the massive cathedral.

As your characters enter the cathedral, it's a wonder of what will happen next, now. Terrible enough to be stuck in an unknown world, but now with the first familiar ally gone and the only familiar place known destroyed, where is there to turn and what is to happen now?

&;

the cathedral: the cathedral will be the place of temporary refuge for the characters during this time. The cathedral is actually quite massive, almost as large as the city itself, and holds many doors and pathways that are locked. Lots to do here. Lots to wander around and look at. It has many of the typical architectures of a regular cathedral as well as aspects of a castle to it, so take it as you will if your character will be exploring.

(The cathedral will also be the area for the main plot, although they will be allowed into normally/currently locked areas. More information on that soon, but it was worth mentioning).

//ooc:: so, I have to admit when this event started, destroying Nuadoria was not in the planning book. But considering player attendance + etc, the only real IC thing that made sense was to have it destroyed without belittling the concept of meteor anymore than it already was (as it was synthetic to begin with). So, yes, here at AT we're full of surprises. Even to the mod lmf. Enjoy ♥ The huge mod plot will be rolling along at some point starting next week. This weekend into next week will be cool down + leisure with the holidays, but will move faster/slower depending on how much activity I see around (some people are more active/less active during the holiday time and not all of us celebrate the thanksgiving holiday).

Also, I'll proofread this/tweak it when I'm more awake. Sob. But, you get the idea. (Thank you, Miru, for posting that thing for me last night ♥ )
EVENT: Atmosphere Transition

OTHERWORLD >>> REGENERATION

[Thanks to a certain Fire Magister (or should we say thanks to a certain group of very self sacrificing characters that are probably going to regret it ... ah ha ♥ ), the state of Nuadoria's decay will suddenly come to a halt as another set of bells is heard ringing their ominous sound. One. Two. Three. All over again, the same eerie sounds that brought this nightmare in the first place. The monsters will stop their attacks, their pursuits, even their simple prowling of the streets and retreat back into the shadows to disappear completely from Nuadoria for the time being. The decay and rot itself will actually peel itself away, stripping off to leave reassembled and perfectly normally put together buildings and etc. As the rot falls away, damages will disappear like they had never been there. A complete reversal effect will happen, in short, and Nuadoria will go back to the way it was prior to the Otherworld event.

...Or, not quite.

Just as things seem to about be going back to normal, and the bells should stop their ringing, they instead will ring once again, although at a high pitched and unbalanced paced. Again, one ring, two rings, up to five at a decibel so high and so out of rhythm it's painful enough to disorient oneself. And then all at once it'll stop, curt and abrupt, and when the reverberations finally stop in the characters heads and they can regain their senses, they'll notice once again Nuadoria is again quite.... different. But, this, this would almost seem like a difference for the better.

It's strange, but the sun is out, and the sky is blue, and everywhere is so green, with plant life: trees, flowers, and etc. The streets are clean, buildings look well taken care off and not at all abandoned in the slightest. The city even has a comforting feel, like there are more than just the refugees there. Listening, it's even possible to hear animals: birds, cats, dogs. Furthermore, children running around playing, and other human beings talking can be heard, like there is hustle and bustle of a well to do city, and in fact, if characters search, they may very well find "natives" wandering around about their daily business in some areas of the city. Shopping, taking care of children, having outings, reading, etc, etc. However, they will ignore your characters entirely, unable to see or hear them (because, they themselves are simply images of the past), so any attempt to talk to them will be futile.

What your characters are experiencing is a Nuadoria before their time here, a time before whatever destruction fell upon it: an image of it at its peak prosperity. Even in the worst parts of Nuadoria (dark red zones and black zones), characters will be not harmed in this version of the city. It is a peaceful place, and those "zones" will only serve to intensify the hallucination of prosperity by giving characters a more in depth feeling of reliving the time when Nuadoria was still at its prime.]

(The Regeneration Plane activation is a result of the little group Caim had Nel put together, although it wasn't necessarily on purpose. Will be posting with Caim a summary on that situation so you guys can discuss/react accordingly in a little bit, as we thought with the way the event ended it'd be to messy to try and do a log ♥ It'll explain what the characters saw and what would have/could have happened to them and you can make the decisions, we'll also leave a comment thread for any "backlogging conversation" if anyone wants to actually play out dialogue that went on after reading the summary. If after reading the summary everyone is all "OMG MUST HAVE A LOG RIGHT NOW, we can uh...backlog too but I figured you guys would be more troubled by it than anything at the moment, as this isn't event over time, this is halftime.)
1st-Nov-2008 08:45 pm - Event! -Nuadoria - Otherworld
You can blame the people in chat for this.

With the tolling of the bells, Nuadoria will be experiencing a rather sudden DIVE in appearance and quality in its setting. Basically, the entire place is going to experience something close to a "rotting" sequence. The buildings are going to be stripped, holed, rusted. Some will be half crumbled walls, some will not even be standing anymore. It's going to look like a warzone.

It's also going to be rather black out, but characters will still be able to see their surroundings with some type of light. The atmosphere will still be disorienting as usual (so keep those limitations in mind), but in addition there will be a lot of random monsters floating around now for your scaring/fighting/mindfucking pleasure as well! There's just about everything and anything you want (whatever game, movie, fandom, I really don't care, Nuadoria is indiscriminate and it's going to pull this stuff from your characters' heads and beyond—basically, there are childs (if you're still swimming about this, childs in Nuadoria are the monsters) that are formless until someone actually sees them and they take the form of whatever their fear is/a certain monster from their world/a danger known to them/etc. and they are able to recreate all the physical attributes including abilities and skills. So, yeah, your characters will be able to get a little taste of home.

If you're having a rather hard time understanding the transition, I'm going to reference the Silent Hill games because the transitioning sequence from the normal Nuadoria to the "otherworld" version is ripped right off from that (I didn't even change the concept name haha).

(It's actually pretty safe as far as monsters go haha)

The characters can do something to fix it if players feel like being proactive, or not, we'll see how things play out. This is just a random for fun event to get things rolling for the big event next week and since a few us have been bored in chat, I figured we could have some fun in the game while we were at it. Question, comments, etc. ♥

EDIT:

Gaea mentions a riddle in her post as being a key survival tip. It is, take her seriously. The place is crawling with monsters, your characters are not going to last with effects of the physical and mental trauma happening to simply fight through them and at some point during the event the riddle answer is going to come in handy. (As players, you can google it, but for suspense sake I'm not saying exactly how to use the puzzle piece yet, but you're welcome to try and pry it out of the NPC). If the players decide they want to be proactive and have the characters transition Nuadoria back, Gaea will give them another riddle and more directions to work off of.

Characters are welcome to harass Dai and Caim for any help and info in this little affair, although Gaea has a leash on Caim. Aka, she just beat the shit out of him, so he's going to be a little slow with any assistance he can give. (Dai has a better relationship with Gaea, anyway, so he's probably more helpful).
In concurrence with this transmission, looking up to the sky will give everyone the same view of the large winged creature screeching its last moments, it ignites an attack from its open mouth. Instead of at its opponents, it instead sends it off into the sky. Unlike what one would normally think would happen, the energy actually hits something and penetrates into the sky rather than off across it (as if the sky was paper). There's no explosion, no nothing to indicate the 'puncture' however as Phalanx finally falls back to dip to the ground in its defeated state. Upon hitting the ground, however (taking a few buildings with it), his physical form disintegrates in an explosion of sheer force, sending a shockwave throughout the city. The wave will cause tremors, but once it actually passes across a character, it will whip directly through them. It won't hurt (although they may or may not be knocked off their feet), but they will that adrenaline rush they had earlier halt as if a switch was turned on. The heavy pressure from the impending dark red and black zones that probably cover a good 90% of the city now starts to lift, as well as the normal red zones. Nothing will look different other than that feeling, initially, but as soon as the shockwave dies out completely, the next blink of an eye for all the characters will show the city completely back to its original state. No rubble, no destroyed buildings, not cracked streets, etc. The only evidence that anything happened are a few pieces left from the monster (part of one of phalanx's wings, part of one of cthulu's tentacles, part of Prithvi's skin—think snake skin—,and one of Azmeth's teeth.)

The only real difference to Nuadoria that wasn't there before the initial bombings is that in the sky there is now what looks like some type of worm hole where Phalanx blasted.

Surroundings Update: The entire city is now a safe state for the time being, "green zones" throughout, so minimal paranormal/psychiatric/etc. happenings for the characters (they need a break I think after all this angst/pressure/etc.. Go chill out and have fun for a while!) Eventually the zones will revert back to their normal colors, but everything in the city is green (anything outside the city still has the same conditions).

All characters acting weird will sort of just snap out of it as soon as they are hit with the shockwave, so it'll occur simultaneously with the power resuppression. (any hallucinations will be gone, any crazy ideas in their head will be gone, etc. And, yes, they remember being affected/what happened during that time.

Questions? Comments, etc. go here!

(but, no, this isn't proofread and I can't see straight so forgive spelling/grammar errors. Just had to end this despite being really sick, haha)
27th-Aug-2008 12:42 am - EVENT END
[The water has been stagnant and undisturbed other than sharks and people trudging through it. While the sharks have been creating a bit of chaos, the past several hours have been eerily silent. No more sharks—not even sightings—and no sight or sound of the disappeared. It looks like it'll be a very gradual process of fixing the city even if the party at the dam is successful.

Or, not.]

End By Ice )

ENVIRONMENT CHANGES: The sense of touch for the characters will return to normal, they will no longer feel the effects of being weighted down by water.

There are no shark bodies. They have just disappeared along with the ice.

The barrier at the bridge is gone. Characters now are able to leave the perimeter of the city via the bridge and gate entrance only. They still cannot get out through the sides or get to the dam. Outside is large field between the city and the forest. There is nothing of particular interest, although scouring the field may reveal remnants of armor, bones, weaponry, and other hints of battle being fought. Characters may explore the forest, but keep in mind it is a black zone. No matter how far they get, they can't get to the other side and they will find nothing of valuable interest unless a mod specifies otherwise.

THE COMMUNICATORS: With the barrier explosion, the communicators will all lose connection to the network they're on. It'll reconnect after a few minutes, and everything will be in working order except for one thing. Filters are broken. Characters will not be able to filter their communication to other characters anymore. The only type of filtering that still works are private posts the character makes for themselves only. This is effective immediately and remains so until announced otherwise.

OOC: That LJ-Cut has important information needed for your character to react accordingly. Try not to be too lazy about reading it as we will reprimand you for ignoring the results of the event, even if it's because you didn't READ. And, sorry for grammar/spelling errors, I tried but it's late.

SIDEQUEST EVENT 001

The following SEVEN characters:

Kengamine Nagi [info]cicumae
Commodore Smoker [info]brandedjustice
Haku [info]at_your_knees
Gokudera Hayato [info]skyblinded
Ashley Graham [info]daring_damsel
Rinoa Heartilly [info]liberante
Ed [info]walkcreatively
...

...Will suddenly feel themselves slipping and will inevitably go into the water regardless of their balance/position and will get a momentarily sharp drag under. Blackness will creep into your character's vision as a throbbing headache from pressure under the water becomes too hard to handle. Struggling and frantic, your character will be able to breathe again after a few too-long seconds, dropped onto a solid surface. As your character comes to, they will find six other people around them, all lying on a rather suspicious structure that may be obvious to some, if not all, as a dam, and they are located on the bridge. Try as they might, no one will be able to manage a way off the dam, let alone a way back to the actual city. Eventually, your character will notice an exit of the dam into the forest. However, as they attempt to reach the exit, a thick fog will sweep them up and return them back to the top of the dam.

The dam is not flooded like the city, but your character has other things to worry about.

The seven of these characters are not alone, however, as a lone native will be overseeing their recovery. It will not be its normal see through self, as it's standing quite close to one of the characters and will be mirroring that person initially. It will switch physical appearance between the seven of you depending who is closest. It has a mission waiting.

OOC INFO )
18th-Aug-2008 11:04 pm - EVENT 005
As your character takes note of the bit of water lining the streets of Nuadoria, he or she will soon come to find that the level will now begin to rise exponentially after every time they blink, until the waterline reaches five feet in height. No matter which part of the city your character treks into, the water will be consistently chilling. Should your character head for higher ground, he or she will find that their actions will still be weighted and sluggish, as though they were still wading through the deep waters in the street.

However, drowning and exhaustion are not the only dangers facing your character. Within the depths await two very large great white sharks, seemingly genetically altered to be much smarter and more capable than your character believes they should be.

Be aware and be careful, lest you end up like poor old Richard Aiken. (for ooc reference only)
1st-Jul-2008 12:00 am - EVENT 004
FOLLOW-UP EVENT

At the exact stroke of midnight (EST), a tiny beam of light will break through the heavens and slice the darkness overhead the city. The sky will then slowly unveil itself once more, returning to the light gray it once was. As the city brightens, it will also reveal the littering corpses of the shadowy cat demons strewn about the streets and alleyways. The curse upon your character seems to lift along with the brightness of the city; most feelings of disorientation are gone, and time seems to move at a normal pace once again. Your character will then be able to take notice of the eerie sight that stands constant on every corpse: the eyes of the cats are all still open and constantly standing, though they appear to have lost their life’s glow.

As your character approaches a corpse to get a better look, they will suddenly notice that someone else has gotten there first: a native. The native will stand at attention, their bodiless figures stoic and indifferent in the face of such carnage. Seconds will feel like hours, and every tick of the clock causes your character to feel more and more unease, as though the formless being in front of them is boring their eyeless sight into your character’s very soul. Just as your character asks him or herself whether or not their mind is still playing tricks on them, they will find that both the native and the body of the demon have disappeared into thin air. Confused, your character turns around to survey the rest of the city, and catches the sight of a few natives that blink away almost instantaneously. It appears as though the cleanup crew has arrived. The entire city has a feeling of overwhelming sympathy and mourning in the air, and the natives seem to carry these very emotions with them as they walk.

Sometime later, the communicator will spring to life once again with a new update and alert. Your character has now been given the ability to ping the map on their communicator in order to show their location to the person he/she is talking to.

From here on out, if your character plays his or her cards correctly, they may be able to elicit a spoken response from a native. However, if spoken in person, your character will be immediately caught off guard as the native in question assumes the form of the character addressing it in order to engage in conversation.
24th-Jun-2008 09:14 pm - EVENT 003
THREE PART EVENT

DAY ONE AND TWO:
(Tuesday and Wednesday)

The device will suddenly spring to life with the hoarse, ragged voice of a Native with an ominous warning. Almost immediately after the transmission, the bell from the giant church beyond the forest outside of town will sound. Once. Twice. Three times. And more. The sky above Nuadoria will grow completely dark, with absolutely no natural light. Scarce, sporadic street lanterns will dot the streets as the only source of light. It would behoove your character to find a candle to travel with at the Candle Shoppe in the northern sector of town… if they think to or can find the place in such overwhelming darkness.

The only things visible in the seemingly constant night are sets of glowing red eyes. They will be your character’s only warning before a giant black cat-like demon will spring from the shadows and pounce them. Fear not, however, for these beasts cannot hurt your character. For now. The attacks will pass directly through your character, as though the creatures themselves were merely holograms.

These giant shadowy cats will not travel more than two feet into the light, and will use any source of darkness to hide in and attack from. The attacks can be a variety of different things; not just random mauling. Some demons will be able to shape shift into lances or some other sharp weaponry for a brief attack on your character. Others may have tentacles spout from their bodies. It’s up to your character to decide what exactly happens to them, just so long as the assailant resumes the form of a giant cat when it’s done.

Other than natural instincts, these demons will not be able to be "sensed" by characters, regardless of their abilities. All other supernatural powers will be available and remain with no change (still no flying/teleporting/etc.), but those lacking such abilities will suddenly gain sharper eyesight and very slightly better night vision. This enhancement will last until the final day of the entire event.

PART TWO )
PART THREE )
18th-Jun-2008 01:21 am - Congratulations, Enjoy Your Stay
Your characters will feel as if a small weight has suddenly been lifted from them, even though they never felt this weight on them to begin with. Again, an eerie voice crackles through the communicators, followed by a beep to get the user’s attention. On the communicator screen as the pop-up default view now is a map:

Successful Download )

Powers are no longer completely suppressed and will hover at a moderately suppressed rate that is default for this game (if you need clarification, a mod will be happy to assist you – but we are ultimately expecting players to stay within a fair range!). The feelings of vertigo will lessen, as well, and your characters now have a shiny new map downloaded on their communicators, probably courtesy of one of the natives.

In addition to the note on the map, a couple other things to be noted:

- white dots are ‘structures’. These are particular significant structures, but are not the only structures within the city. It’s just to give a general idea of the layout.
- Characters will see the “grid” lines just like it is on the map, only in a much fainter color. They have no idea what it means, and we hope players will comply with this and play along once their character ventures into some of the more “dangerous” places. (What’s the fun of it if you don’t play along otherwise?)
- The only other thing that the players can see on this map that the characters cannot are the labels for the “sea” and “the forest” (to the character, it’s blank or just a bunch of weird texture).

You’ve got a lot of exploring to do, so what are you waiting for?

Current Map Status:

This is updated periodically and lists special restrictions that are currently in place in the city that the map doesn't necessarily show.

As of 08/06/2009

The city is currently experiencing normal rates of threshold variation with the highest probability rate in each zone for affecting an individual (see the map) and the weather is ???.

The following areas are blocked off: the sewers, the dam.

The sewers are blocked by traditional gates, reinforced with some sort of unseen energy.

The forest is no longer blocked, so characters now have access outside the city to it as well as the plains separating it and the city. Remember the forest is disorienting and will not allow you to trek through it.

As for the dam, there's just currently no known way to get to it, although some of the characters have been transported there by the natives.

The following areas have restricted access: the library archives, the watch tower.

The archives are open, but there is not a lot of really interesting information available at present. Some basic mythology, magic books, etc. There is a door towards the back of the building, however, it is sealed shut and whatever is behind it is inaccessible. UPDATE: Since the NPCs are all currently located in the city, the Ice Magister Caim spends most of his time within the archives. This allows characters currently more access to the archives and files than normal. If a character is looking for specific information or access, seek out the Ice Magister in character, he's not that difficult to find within the building if your character is there!

The watch tower is restricted due to its location making it difficult to get to. There's a few small sheds surrounding it that are locked and the very top of the watch tower is also locked (you can go up a few "flights" to see things at various heights, though).
15th-Jun-2008 07:03 pm - EVENT 001
Stand DOWN.

Your character will awaken in a crossroads somewhere randomly in town. Looking out into the distance, they will see the scenery waver slightly, as though the humidity in the city was extremely high, though they will not feel any. They will get a split-second glance of a native before it disappears like mist, and they will not see another for quite some time. In their hand is a small communication device, giving no explanation for where they are or why; there only exists a screen with the word WELCOME on it… until, of course, the device crackles alive with the grainy, broken voice of a passing native.

If your character attempts at using any supernatural powers, they will find themselves overwhelmingly dizzy. They will get dizzier the harder they try to call upon said ability and will eventually vomit if they push themselves hard enough. Characters with no supernatural abilities will be awash with feelings of vertigo at random intervals. These effects will only last for two days.

Welcome to Nuadoria.
